9. Десять помилок українців

Це помилки, які я найчастіше чую від українців із хорошою англійською. Виправите ці десять — і перейдете з «одразу чути іноземця» до «звучить вільно».

① Подвійний минулий час після did

В українській минулий час завжди в самому дієслові. В англійській він позначається один раз — і did уже його забрав.

✗ НЕПРАВИЛЬНОDid you sent the invoice?
He didn't knew about it.
✓ ПРАВИЛЬНОDid you send the invoice?
He didn't know about it.

② Present Perfect там, де потрібен Past Simple

Обидва перекладаються «я зробив», тож різниця для нас невидима. Для носія — величезна.

✗ НЕПРАВИЛЬНОI have deployed it yesterday.
When have you joined the company?
✓ ПРАВИЛЬНОI deployed it yesterday.
When did you join the company?

③ Continuous замість недоконаного виду

«робив» ≠ автоматично was doing. Якщо це завершений блок часу — потрібен Past Simple.

✗ НЕПРАВИЛЬНОI was working there for five years.
Yesterday I was writing three reports.
✓ ПРАВИЛЬНОI worked there for five years.
Yesterday I wrote three reports.

④ Надмірне вживання Past Perfect

Класична «перестраховка» після підручника. Носії вживають його рідко — приблизно в одному реченні з двадцяти.

✗ НЕПРАВИЛЬНОYesterday I had gone to the office and had had three calls.
✓ ПРАВИЛЬНОYesterday I went to the office and had three calls.

⑤ Пропущені артиклі

В українській артиклів немає, тож рука сама їх пропускає. Правило-мінімум: перша згадка — a, повторна або відома обом — the.

✗ НЕПРАВИЛЬНОI opened ticket and assigned it to developer.
✓ ПРАВИЛЬНОI opened a ticket and assigned it to the developer.

⑥ Дієслова стану з -ing

✗ НЕПРАВИЛЬНОI was understanding the problem.
We were wanting to release earlier.
✓ ПРАВИЛЬНОI understood the problem.
We wanted to release earlier.

⑦ Порядок слів у питанні — калька з української

Українською питання можна поставити самою інтонацією. Англійською потрібна інверсія.

✗ НЕПРАВИЛЬНОYou saw my message?
Why you didn't tell me?
✓ ПРАВИЛЬНОDid you see my message?
Why didn't you tell me?

⑧ during замість while

Обидва — «під час», але during вимагає іменника, а while — цілого речення.

✗ НЕПРАВИЛЬНОIt happened during I was testing.
✓ ПРАВИЛЬНОIt happened while I was testing.
It happened during the test.

⑨ Латинські дієслова замість фразових

Граматично правильно, але звучить як перекладений документ. Слов'янські мовці інстинктивно обирають «розумне» слово — носії обирають фразове дієслово.

⑩ Надмірна формальність

Українська ділова традиція значно офіційніша за англомовну. Те, що вам здається ввічливим, звучить холодно й архаїчно.

🔊 Вимова минулих форм — особистий список для контролю

said /sed/ — а не /seɪd/
read (минулий) /red/ — пишеться так само, читається інакше
bought / thought / caught / brought — звук /ɔː/, один склад, ніякого /g/ всередині
heard /hɜːd/ — не /hɪəd/
was /wəz/ у швидкій мові — зберігайте /w/, не перетворюйте на /v/
worked /wɜːkt/ — один склад. Українці додають зайвий голосний: ✗ /ˈwɜːkɪd/
asked /ɑːskt/ — теж один склад, найважче поєднання
