Yesterday at 11 p.m. the pager went off. I was watching a film, so I paused it and opened my laptop. Production was down. It turned out that a junior dev had pushed a migration straight to main two hours earlier and nobody had reviewed it. While I was rolling back the migration, my CTO called. By the time we restored the service, we had lost about forty minutes of traffic.

Last March I flew to Berlin for our first investor meeting. I had never pitched to a real fund before, so I was shaking the whole morning. While I was setting up the slides, one of the partners asked me a question about our churn rate. Luckily, our analyst had sent me the numbers the night before, so I answered without hesitating. They didn't invest in the end, but they introduced us to two other funds.

On Saturday I decided to fly the new drone by the lake. The sun was shining and almost nobody was walking there. I had charged the batteries the night before, so I was ready. Everything went well for ten minutes. Then, while the drone was hovering over the water, the signal dropped. It turned out I had forgotten to update the firmware. I got it back, but my hands were still shaking when I drove home.
