Скільки складів у слові?
Один — -er / -est. Два на -y — -ier / -iest. Решта — more / most.
Дві машинки ніколи не працюють разом: ✗ more better, ✗ most easiest.

кінець на -e → тільки -r / -st: nice → nicer
приголосна + голосна + приголосна (1 склад) → подвоєння: big → bigger, hot → hottest
приголосна + y → i: happy → happier
НЕ подвоюємо: дві голосні (cheaper), дві приголосні (faster), кінцеві w, x, y (newer)

good / well → better → the best · bad / badly → worse → the worst
far → farther / further → the farthest / furthest · little → less → the least
much / many → more → the most

усе на -ed: more tired · more bored
усе на -ing: more boring
односкладові-винятки: more real · more right · more wrong · more fun

двоскладові на -er, -le, -ow: simpler = more simple · narrower = more narrow · cleverer = more clever
плюс quiet · polite · common · friendly. Помилки не буде в жодному разі.

the — частина форми: ✗ he is best developer
in — місце й група: in the team, in the city · of — час і перелік: of the year, of the three
one of the + ступінь + множина: one of the fastest ways · the second largest · the best I have ever seen

as + прикметник + as · not as … as (мʼяка критика) · as much / as many … as
кратність тільки тут: twice as expensive as, half as long as. ✗ twice more expensive
as … as possible = «як-най-» · the same speed as (з іменником!)

fewer + штуки: fewer clients, fewer bugs · less + маса: less time, less money
але гроші, час і відстань числом — less: less than $50, less than 20 minutes
найвищий: the least effort · the fewest tickets

багато: much · far · a lot · way · significantly · трохи: a bit · a little · slightly
✗ very перед ступенем ніколи · even better (ще) · no better (анітрохи) · any better? (хоч трохи)
найвищий підсилюють: by far the best · easily the best · the very best
міра числом стоїть ПОПЕРЕДУ: three years older · 30% faster

prefer A to B · would rather A than B

без -ly — як прикметники: faster, harder, later, sooner, earlier
на -ly — через more: more carefully, more slowly (розм. quicker, slower — теж ок)
good → well, але ступінь спільний: better. ✗ plays good, ✗ more good
the з прислівником можна опустити: he works (the) hardest
